If you could not already tell, I am one with the atmosphere. One fateful day of watching tornado videos in 3rd grade was all it took to set me on the path to becoming a meteorologist, and I have never looked back since.

Studying Meteorology teaches you a lot of skills; namely, weather forecasting, communication, and extended STEM skills like computer programming, mathematics, and data analysis. Furthermore, my interests have led me down the rabbit hole of related topics like climate change, sustainability, and urban planning. I discuss some of my key skills below and you can also download and view my resume.

Weather Forecasting

Providing a good weather forecast involves careful analysis of current atmospheric conditions, model projections, and clear communication. Four years of study at the University of Oklahoma and a six-month internship with Hailtrace have equipped me with the necessary data analysis and communication skills to deliver timely and precise weather forecasts to the general public and personal clients. I write a weather blog for the Denver area and I have four seasons of experience forecasting severe weather as a storm chaser 🙂

Research & Data Analysis

Being a meteorologist also entails skills and practice in research and data analysis. The world is filled with data and it is our job to collect and analyze it for the advancement of our society.

My experience in research spans a several years and topics including but not limited to:

  • Forensic Meteorology at Hailtrace, where I wrote approximately 100 forensic reports for roofing and insurance companies detailing local impacts from severe weather events
  • Academic Research Projects such as this one in college
  • Gathering and analyzing statistics for a handful of Esports teams (Link)

In addition to the knowledge and practice of technical skills, I also find it rewarding and important to teach STEM skills to my peers and youth alike. Some say I have a gift, but I say it is the reward of taking the time to deeply understand the concepts I have chosen to engage with. Mathematics is a particular favorite of mine and teaching math is something I have made a mini-career out of. Here a few things I have done with teaching:

  • Long-term substitute teacher for 6th grade math (8 weeks)
  • Private Math Tutor (4 clients ranging from Algebra to Pre-Calculus)
  • 8th grade Basketball Coach (2 month season, finished in regional semifinals)
